Floodlights

Work began on Monday the 26th of November 2007.A work team arrived at the club during early Monday afternoon, having to off load a delivery of 10 very large 10m columns, the columns were dropped off at the end of towpath near Twiss road bridge, With a small carpet type trolley they were hand loaded by 3 workman and pushed down to the the tennis club site.

It was not long before removing of 5x 1m sections of the hedging around the fencing and machining of the hole positions for the new columns, that the workmen had them in place ready for cables.

We are now very close to the end of the project with EDF making the final power connection to the meter and fuse box at the end of court 5 on 16th January.

Luminance Pro are expecting to install the new payment meter system in on Thursday and removal of the existing floodlight columns on Friday!!!

See progress with photo gallery

The project is now complete with the meter box installed in the clubhouse and lights all ready for use.

Meter use is simple and easy, an easy to follow instruction notice is above meter, showing step by step of how to use.

Courts are now numbered 1 to 4, with the furthest end court being  No 1. Each court may be individually floodlit, cost of lighting is at present £1.00 per 15mins, (£4 per hour session with a 5 minutes remaining  blue flashing warning light on the end of each court. this allows you to add further £1.00 per 15mins if required to the court you are using! If You do not add any further minutes the lights will go out and there will remain two 5 min egress lights on court to allow you to leave safely!

The presentation was received well, with a small number of questions raised, and passed with a unanimous vote to continue with the project.

Club tournament finals day 2007

On Saturday the 8th of September 2007, Hythe LTC held their finals day for the club tournaments which were organized by Roger Storey and the junior section by Head Coach Nick Skelton, the day’s organizer being Moira Gaines (Membership secretary) and presenter of trophies Chris Capon. The weather conditions on the day were perfect for tennis.

Hythe Tennis Club invited Councilor Chris Capon to present the trophies to the winners. Many members, guests and friends turned up to watch some great tennis and support the finalists. The Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Men’s Doubles Finals were strongly contested 3set matches with them all being extremely close; the final results could have gone either way.

The Men’s Singles final between Greg Hill and Dominic Forsdike, although being a closely fought match, (not reflected in result), Dominic Forsdike in his first (of many) ever club singles final, had the edge over the previous winner and defender of the trophy (2006), giving his all on grass court 1, showing great footwork, speed and big point winning shots! Dominic went on to win convincingly (6-2, 6-0) a straight 2 set win. (For the first time this year the club introduced a new trophy for the men’s and women’s singles, A plate ‘a second competition for those who are knocked out in the first round of these 2 tournaments) sponsored by 2 long standing members.

Liz Ireland and Martin Bryer.

Junior Tournament Winners

Girls 16 and under Singles Anna Shields

Boys 12 and under Singles     Joe Shields

Boys 14 and under Singles   Ben Morrison

Boys 16 and under Singles   Jono Hook

Boys 18 and under Singles    Dominic Forsdike

Also on the day we had the Juniors finals, the girls singles final played  between Anna Shields and Dominique Cowell the under 12s, won by Joe Shields and the under 14s, won by Ben Morrison. The under 16s won by Jono Hook, and the under 18s final between Dominic Forsdike and Jono Hook. Dominic Forsdike again winning his second singles final by 2straight sets.

A big thank you! To the organizers, committee members as scoring judges and other club members for their help with food and refreshments. Congratulations to all the winners and well done to those who were runners up, making it an excellent finals day for the club.
