The 2014 Wimbledon Ballot will be held along similar lines to 2012/13 with the names of those wishing to enter the ballot for tickets being given by way of an e-mail or a telephone call as detailed below.
In past years we had a lot of problems because over 60% of those indicating on their membership forms that they wished to be entered into the ballot subsequently either didn’t want tickets or simply ignored the numerous e-mails that were sent to them after their names were drawn!
The Lawn Tennis Association have now given us their timetable and we shall need to know who wishes to be included before the official club membership renewal date of April 1st 2014 so only those who reply to me at the contact details below will be included in the first draw to choose who gets the choice of tickets.
We shall know very shortly how many pairs of tickets have been allocated to us for this year.
YOU MUST TELL US THAT YOU WISH TO BE INCLUDED IN THE BALLOT BY FRIDAY MARCH 21st
On Saturday March 22nd from 2pm in the pavilion we will draw the names of those who have been successful. It is not necessary for you to be there on that day unless you wish to be, as everyone whose name has been drawn will be specifically notified following this initial draw.
On Saturday April 19th from 2pm the allocation of tickets will be made starting with the first name that was drawn on March 22rd having the first choice of tickets and so on down the list of names.
IF YOUR NAME WAS DRAWN ON MARCH 22nd YOU, OR SOMEONE SPECIFICALLY REPRESENTING YOU AND ABLE TO MAKE TICKET CHOICE DECISIONS FOR YOU, MUST ATTEND ON APRIL 19th OR YOUR TICKETS WILL BE ALLOCATED TO THE NEXT ON THE LIST
Once you have selected the day you wish to go to the Championships you will have 2 weeks to pay, this will be directly with the Lawn Tennis Association and you will be given full details on April 19th.
IF YOU WISH TO BE INCLUDED PLEASE E-MAIL firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone me on 07791 732636 giving your British Tennis membership number.
You must be a member of British Tennis to be eligible and if you fail to re-join Hythe Lawn Tennis Club on April 1st you lose your right to receive tickets in our ballot.
As we are approaching the coldest time of the year we have noticed that the surface of the rear (Southerly end) of the 4 new courts remains icy due to the hedge preventing any sun reaching that area. We are now aware of this and before next winter will have the hedge height lowered with the final cut of the summer but it was something that we weren’t aware of.
The older hard painted hard court have now been cleaned thoroughly which has, removed the moss and all have been treated to prevent its return thus making the courts safer and playable quicker after rain.
This has been arranged with Chiltern Sports for next Monday November 11th and all four courts will be out of action all day.
We selected a Monday as this is the day when the courts are least in demand so trust there will be no inconvenience to members and of course the four new courts are fully in use particularly in the morning.
Later in the day when the cleaning is completed Chiltern Sports will be painting 4 mini red courts onto court 5 (the new court nearest to the pavilion) so this court will then be out of action for the remainder of the evening.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

USA's top fitness and wellbeing personality Jesse Pavelka
As part of his UK tour, USA's top fitness and wellbeing personality Jesse
Pavelka visited Hythe Lawn Tennis Club on August 30th to carry out a morning
of fitness and inspirational talking.
12 VIP's spent the first part of the morning circuit training on the grass
tennis courts and then after a one to one period with each of them they were
joined by around 20 other ladies and gentlemen and they all did a fitness
walk to the Eastern end of the Royal Military Canal and back before
returning to the Club for photo sessions with Jessie.
Thanks to member Sue Dinsdale who organised the morning on behalf of HOOP.
WILSON DOVER & DISTRICT CHARITY TOURNAMENT
Annual Charity Tournament August 26th 2013
In brilliant hot sunshine Hythe Lawn Tennis Club hosted it’s annual charity tournament on Bank Holiday Monday August 26th.
Twenty pairs were entered from eight different local clubs. There were four groups of five pairs playing in the morning on a round robin basis and after a fantastic barbecue cooked by Hythe Club Treasurer Jim Gore the top three pairs in each group played a separate tournament in Group A and the bottom two pairs in each group played for Group B.
There was some exciting tennis in the afternoon before the semi finals of Group A were played between Hythe’s Dominic Forsdike and Jenny Harrison against Chuck Ridyard and Lina Hopkins
with Dominic and Jenny emerging the victors and the second semi final was between Graham and Kate Samedini and Alan Prosan and Susie Ridyard with Alan and Susie winning.
The final between Dominic and Jenny and Knoll pair Alan and Susie was brilliant to watch with both pairs fighting to the bitter end but eventually the Hythe pairing of Dominic and Jenny proved too strong and they won 6-4.
Dominic Forsdike studied sport at University in North Carolina but is now living and working in Maine and his partner Jenny was the winner of Hythe’s Most Improved Junior Girl in 2004. It’s lovely to see our juniors becoming adults and still having such a love of tennis and playing so well.
Dominic’s father Neil was the Club’s junior coach for many years and he and his wife Phillipa were also playing today.
One interesting partnership today was Hythe’s full time coach Nick Skelton who played with one of the young language students who is living in Hythe for a short time and whom Nick has been coaching in the afternoons along with her fellow French students.
Misua Heritau plays regularly for Chalon Tennis Club in France. Misua is highly ranked in the under 17’s and she and Nick made a formidable partnership.
The main aim of the day was, of course, to raise much needed funds for the Rett Syndrome Association and almost £900 was raised throughout the day from the entry fee, lunch, afternoon teas, donations from beer and wine and of course a raffle.
This was the last tournament which will be played at Hythe on the grass courts as work commences on September 30th to replace them with four more all weather floodlit courts giving us 8 all weather floodlit courts answering the demand for year round tennis in Shepway

July Supper Evening
The July Supper Night was the most glorious evening with almost 50 members
enjoying the grass during the last season they will be operational before
they are removed.
A fantastic supper was prepared by Ross Butcher and Helen Cornes and a
record sum was raised for a supper night with over £100 profit going to the
Everyone who was there had a most enjoyable evening in a lovely sociable
The next supper night will be on Wednesday August 28th and more details will
follow but in the meantime don't forget every Wednesday from 6pm is mix-in
night for tennis and always well attended so you will get plenty of games.
Latest on the club courts
I am absolutely delighted to tell you that following our successful application to the Inspired Facilities (Sport England) Fund, we now have the full funding in place to construct the courts and the floodlighting at the same time and construction will commence on September 30th
Could I point out that Sport England have told me that we may tell our members the good news but on no account must this news be relayed to the press by any member as there is a press embargo on all successful applications until August 12th when Sport England are holding a press conference so please respect this.
It has been a very difficult 18 months and has been fraught with disappointment after disappointment however we have turned a corner and now have funding from Kent County Council, Kent LTA, Hythe Institute Fund and The Tory Foundation. We have also applied to Shepway District Council but we will not hear about that until September.
I would like to thank again all those members who took out advance memberships as without that we would have had a cash shortfall.
We will keep members fully informed of the disruption that will be inevitable caused by having two construction firms on site at the same time but enjoy the summer and enjoy the grass.
