Where the future of tennis begins NEWS

Dear All
The Venetian Fete was a great success last night which resulted in good publicity for the Club and we were delighted to come second!
I want to thank Dave Wilson for his extremely hard work and to his daughter Abbey for the ideas for all the ‘extras’ on the float.
We worked for almost 35 hours building the float which was hard work but we enjoyed every (well almost every) minute.
Thanks to Dougal for his painting,
to Gilbert for his excellent rowing even if we did take
the scenic route just for the first 100 yards!! Thanks to David Weller and to Amanda for
keeping us ‘on the straight and narrow and also particular thanks to Cathy and to Allison Stroud who fed almost 40 of us together with parents and friends during the break in the evening.
Thank you also to the following juniors who were so well behaved on the float and waved
and smiled till they ached!
Abby and Harry, Abigail, Benji, Ella and Olivia, Emily and William, Thomas, Xifia, Tom Alldritt and Alex Stroud
The full range of photographs will go onto the Club’s Facebook page
Thanks again

Mid-Summer Barbecue
Saturday July 27th

Despite the threat of dire storms the mid-summer barbecue was held in glorious sunshine and attended by over 40 members who enjoyed their tennis mix-in and then enjoyed a superb meal. The barbecue was run by Jim Gore who sweltered over hot coals and the remainder of the food was prepared by Cathy and Hilary and a substantial profit was made for Club funds. Thanks to everyone who contributed in making this such an enjoyable and sociable afternoon. The thunder and lightning together with heavy rain commenced within an hour
of everything being cleared away so brilliant timing

Dear Members,
There is a great deal of pressure on bookable court time at the moment and as we are finding that some people are booking up to 3 hour sessions, we are going to re-introduce the system which we had in place a year or so ago whereby the maximum booking slot is 90 minutes. (Please don't just book another consecutive period with another name from the same group).
We are sure that you'll agree that this provides for a fairer court usage for all members.
This will start when the next booking sheets go up.

Best Regards
The Committee

MONDAY JUNE 9th 6.15 for 6.30 start

Every year we play a friendly cricket match against the Cricket Club and then subsequently they come and play tennis against us.

We still need more players for this years match next Monday. It is a 20/20 match (20 overs per side).
You don't have to be an expert (although we would be delighted if you are!). Kit can be provided, a supper is provided after the match and it's completely FREE.

If you are interested please text 07977 932750 and you will be contacted right back or e-mail hilary@casey.org.uk.

This is a really enjoyable evening and a lovely social way to mix with your fellow tennis club members away from the court so don't delay, get in touch either by text or e-mail TODAY.

I want to say a really sincere than you to all of you who attended this weekends celebrations for the opening of the new courts.

Everything went off better than we could have even hoped for, aided of course by the hottest weekend of the year so far.

There were so many volunteers apart from my hard working fellow committee members and you were all brilliant and we couldn't have organised such a large event without you.
As far as The Great British Tennis Weekend went I am delighted to say that we had a higher number of attendees than any other Club in England and this has resulted in a surge of new members signing up. At one point there must have been about 250 people there on Saturday and the atmosphere was electric.
All our plans worked flawlessly thanks to everyone's enthusiasm.

The official opening went without a hitch. The demonstration of mini tennis was superb and the exhibition match between Dominic and Bertie was breathtaking.
Nicks commentary on both of these events was entertaining and informative and his 'Sue Barker' interviews were brilliant.

All our guests from the LTA, Kent LTA, Shepway Sports Trust, Kent County Council and the local authority including the mayors of Folkestone and Hythe have gone away with a knowledge of the Club which hopefully will prove invaluable in the future.

Please go onto the Hythe Lawn Tennis Club's Facebook page to see all the photos and look out for the coverage in this coming weeks Folkestone & Hythe Herald and Folkestone KM Gazette.

Thank you all again for your support

USA's top fitness and wellbeing personality Jesse Pavelka

As part of his UK tour, USA's top fitness and wellbeing personality Jesse
Pavelka visited Hythe Lawn Tennis Club on August 30th to carry out a morning
of fitness and inspirational talking.
12 VIP's spent the first part of the morning circuit training on the grass
tennis courts and then after a one to one period with each of them they were
joined by around 20 other ladies and gentlemen and they all did a fitness
walk to the Eastern end of the Royal Military Canal and back before
returning to the Club for photo sessions with Jessie.
Thanks to member Sue Dinsdale who organised the morning on behalf of HOOP.

Annual Charity Tournament August 26th 2013
In brilliant hot sunshine Hythe Lawn Tennis Club hosted it’s annual charity tournament on Bank Holiday Monday August 26th.

Twenty pairs were entered from eight different local clubs. There were four groups of five pairs playing in the morning on a round robin basis and after a fantastic barbecue cooked by Hythe Club Treasurer Jim Gore the top three pairs in each group played a separate tournament in Group A and the bottom two pairs in each group played for Group B.

There was some exciting tennis in the afternoon before the semi finals of Group A were played between Hythe’s Dominic Forsdike and Jenny Harrison against Chuck Ridyard and Lina Hopkins
with Dominic and Jenny emerging the victors and the second semi final was between Graham and Kate Samedini and Alan Prosan and Susie Ridyard with Alan and Susie winning.
The final between Dominic and Jenny and Knoll pair Alan and Susie was brilliant to watch with both pairs fighting to the bitter end but eventually the Hythe pairing of Dominic and Jenny proved too strong and they won 6-4.

Dominic Forsdike studied sport at University in North Carolina but is now living and working in Maine and his partner Jenny was the winner of Hythe’s Most Improved Junior Girl in 2004. It’s lovely to see our juniors becoming adults and still having such a love of tennis and playing so well.

Dominic’s father Neil was the Club’s junior coach for many years and he and his wife Phillipa were also playing today.

One interesting partnership today was Hythe’s full time coach Nick Skelton who played with one of the young language students who is living in Hythe for a short time and whom Nick has been coaching in the afternoons along with her fellow French students.
Misua Heritau plays regularly for Chalon Tennis Club in France. Misua is highly ranked in the under 17’s and she and Nick made a formidable partnership.

The main aim of the day was, of course, to raise much needed funds for the Rett Syndrome Association and almost £900 was raised throughout the day from the entry fee, lunch, afternoon teas, donations from beer and wine and of course a raffle.

This was the last tournament which will be played at Hythe on the grass courts as work commences on September 30th to replace them with four more all weather floodlit courts giving us 8 all weather floodlit courts answering the demand for year round tennis in Shepway

they are removed.
A fantastic supper was prepared by Ross Butcher and Helen Cornes and a
record sum was raised for a supper night with over £100 profit going to the
Everyone who was there had a most enjoyable evening in a lovely sociable
The next supper night will be on Wednesday August 28th and more details will
follow but in the meantime don't forget every Wednesday from 6pm is mix-in
night for tennis and always well attended so you will get plenty of games.
