OPENING OF THE GRASS COURTS AND THE BEGINNING OF SEASON PARTY

Wine & wisdom July 2nd News archives

Saturday May 1st should have been the first day of play on the grass courts, unfortunately 3 weeks of dry sunny weather broke on April 31st and the courts were too wet to play on. However there was a good turnout for the first day of the summer season even though the hard courts were the order of the day.

In the evening the traditional beginning of season party was held at the new pavilion for the first time. A small marquee was erected to extend the area and although 63 members had put their names on the list to attend over 80 arrived!

Fortunately the splendid buffet organised by Jenny Garrard was more than enough for those present, the weather held dry and still for the evening and a really enjoyable time was had by all.

Thank you to those who donated raffle prizes and everyone who contributed to making the evening such a success.

Thanks again to those on the committee who worked hard on May 1st, particularly Jenny Garrard, Dave Wilson, Sharon Kehaya, Colin Reeves and Roger Storey.

A very successful quiz night was held last night. We will have raised a
substantial amount of money although we are going to make a donation to
Hythe Rotary who cancelled their quiz night to join with us and bought 27
people to ours.

Thanks to everyone who helped and to those who kindly donated raffle prizes.
Thanks also to Roger Storey, who kindly lent us his PA system.

Special thanks must go to Nick and Patrick Mansell who were simply brilliant
and helped with setting up, carrying the boxes of fish and chips upstairs
and returning all the rubbish to my car ready for the tip today and were
constantly on hand to do anything else that was needed.

An enormous thank you once again to Peter Saul for acting as the best
quizmaster ever. To Jacqueline for setting out the quiz so well, it was the
best ever! To Pauline Macintyre who came along to mark despite having Stuart
just back from hospital and to Cllr David Owen who represented Hythe Rotary
on the marking panel.

It's a lot of hard work for all involved to organise a quiz for over 100
people but very rewarding when everyone there enjoys themselves so much.

Thanks again
Hilary

Hythe Lawn Tennis Club play hosts to Sutton Churches
Tennis Club from Croydon.

Bank Holiday Monday saw Hythe Lawn Tennis Club play hosts to Sutton Churches
Tennis Club from Croydon.
Sutton Churches have a Spring Tour every year and Hythe were delighted to
invite them to spend the day at our superb facilities in Hythe.
The Right Worshipful Mayor of Hythe Cllr Keren Belcourt officially welcomed
the visitors to Hythe and was delighted to present them with a silver framed
copy of the Hythe Town Seal.
The tennis tournament, organised by Peter Saul was very closely fought and
resulted in a draw with 14 sets all, although had there been a count back of
the games won Hythe would have been the winners.
The visitors were entertained with a delightful lunch and afternoon tea and
returned home on Monday night with very fond memories of a delightful day
spent in Hythe.
