Chairman’s Report
As we approach another summer’s tennis I am filled with pride at our Club.  Over the years, like any other Club, we have had our problems but over the last few years the atmosphere at all activities goes from strength to strength.

Mix-ins continue to increase in  numbers and the regular supper nights at 8pm on the last Wednesday in each month organised by Cathy and Louise are extremely enjoyable and due to popular demand are to be continued during the summer.

I have an excellent committee and all of them work very hard to ensure that you, as members, have a smooth running Club with the best facilities that we can afford.

We have a new Treasurer and a new Secretary who are both doing a sterling job and it is good to see new members coming forward expressing a wish to be on the committee and to be part of running our Club.

Please feel free to speak to me if you are interested in joining us.
The majority vote at last Decembers AGM was that, when we are able to proceed, we change the grass courts, which have regrettably reached the end of their life into four more all weather floodlit courts

We cannot proceed until we have completed our current loan to the LTA for our existing hard courts so we plan to spend the next 2/3 years building up the Club funds in order to facilitate this.

To this end there will be plenty of social events and fun tournaments which we hope you will all support.

We will continue to maintain the grass courts to the best of our ability until any changeover of surface is imminent.

We will continue to arrange a tea rota for Saturday afternoons during the summer and when the list is put on the board please put your name down to do just one Saturday as this makes such a difference to the atmosphere in the summer.

The LTA have again changed the ruling for the Wimbledon ballot and are introducing a partial online system which I have detailed in full elsewhere in this newsletter together with the timelines and contact details.

The main point to remember is that only senior and junior members who have paid their subscriptions by April 14
th will be eligible to enter the ballot.
Whilst mentioning renewals could I ask that as many of you as possible rejoin online through  www.hythetennis.com as this really helps in ensuring that all the information we hold is accurate. Thank you again to all my fellow committee members.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for another good summer with plenty of excellent tennis.
Hilary Casey

Social Report

We are soon approaching a new tennis season. The Beginning of Season Party this year will be on Saturday May 5th at the Pavilion and will be a fun party evening for all ages, with buffet style food as well as fruit punch wine and beer but also lots of fun games and (competitive) activities as well as music. Just let us know if you would like to help - the more the merrier. Further details will follow soon.

We will be having a Spring Fun Tournament just to get everyone in the mood for the club tournaments throughout summer and bearing in mind it is Olympic year you should all be aiming for medals. Full details with dates and times etc will be posted at the Club and e-mailed to all members. We will also be getting the barbeque going as soon as the weather improves.

There will shortly be a Saturday afternoon Tea Rota going up in the Pavilion for all members to put their names on to do just one afternoon during the summer season. We don’t mind if cakes are home made or shop bought just that everyone takes a turn to donate. We have now had a dishwasher installed in the kitchen, so no more standing there washing up when you want to be back out playing tennis after tea. Simply load it up, turn it on and then put everything away before you go home.

Loads of our regular players have really enjoyed the popular monthly Themed Supper Nights over the winter and we have decided to keep these going throughout the summer.  As the lighter warmer evenings come we hope that some of you will come up with some even more imaginative ideas and volunteer as celebrity chefs to titillate our taste buds after Wednesday evening mix-ins on the last Wednesday in every month.

Social activities are organised both so that we can all make the most of each others company as an active club but also to help raise funds for those all important replacement courts after all we are all here for the tennis above all else. If anyone has any good fund raising ideas these will be welcome we have a great team of people helping regularly with events. Louise and I both work full time and have young families to look after so we are most grateful to the others such as Jim, Dave, Jessie, Gillian and loads of others who regularly help out. Anyone else is more than welcome to join us.

There will be further events during summer as well as the regular ones culminating with this years End of Season Presentation Evening Party which will be at the Cricket Club on Saturday September 29th so put that date in your diaries.  We will send you regular e-mails with full details as events are finalised.

Cathy Alldritt

Please keep an eye on the website for ongoing details.
Moira’s Membership Report:

Firstly, a friendly reminder that subscriptions are due by the end of March. You will find the new rates on the website. For those of you who do not have an E mail, I shall be sending out forms with the newsletter as soon as they are printed.

Our Membership numbers have been good in 2011/12,growing through the summer and remaining static during the Winter months lets hope that  numbers will continue to rise in the coming year.

I would like to mention how pleasing it is to see the Saturday and Wednesday evenings have become so popular and that the addition of Sunday evening has given an additional mix in time. We hope to keep this going during the summer.

I would like to thank all those who provided suppers on Wednesday evenings, these are pleasant social events and help towards the Club funds; I am pleased to see my catering equipment being put to good use!

Members seem to have suffered a great many minor injuries this winter and I hope everyone will soon be fit for the summer season.

Facilities and Ground Report

The grass courts are looking good and we hope for a great summer season on them with few bad bounces! Please make sure that you and your fellow players only play on the grass when you are wearing the correct shoes (which do not have grip ridges raised above the border of the sole). This will go a long way towards avoiding early season damage to the courts.

We will continue our usual practice of taking a court out at a time for watering and a short rest during dry spells. This is critical for keeping the courts going through to the end of the season in reasonable condition.

Thank you for not parking on the Cricket Club grounds during the winter. Please continue to use the ground by the practice wall and parallel to the pavilion. However, if this is all full, you can start parking on the grass just the other side of the car park mound from the 1st May unless the ground is very wet. Please use common sense and be sensitive to the fact that it is not our land.
