History of the Club

Hythe Lawn Tennis Club is a friendly Non profit club situated in the Cinque Port town of Hythe in Kent. All money made is placed into the club funds to improve and maintain the best standard possible to allow amateur tennis for all of the local community. The club was formed in 1889 when it was connected to the Hythe Cricket Club. After 57 years, in 1946, the club was separated from the cricket club becoming completely independent.

Rumour has it that Hythe Lawn Tennis Club is one of the 4 oldest tennis clubs in the world!
The club is situated along a towpath adjacent to the famous Royal Military Canal and has been here for over 120 years.

Match Play

The club enters teams in many leagues across the county, this includes Men's, Ladies, Mixed teams. The teams are put into East Kent, Kent, Ashford and Dover and District leagues. To find out how the club is getting on, go to the match pages.
Social Events

There are many social events throughout the year. These include a number of activities such as Quiz Nights, cycle rides and barbeques. There are also social tournaments held every year such as two generation tournaments and Men's and Ladies Days. A list of these events and dates on which they are held are found in the clubhouse on the notice board and in the What's On section of the website!

Social Tennis

Senior Members and Juniors with Senior Status, are encouraged to attend Mix-In sessions. These are where a player of any standard is invited down to the club to socialize and play tennis the way it should be played...by having fun! The Mix-In sessions are held on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday afternoons. On a typical July Saturday afternoon, the club is thriving with friendly club players who enjoy all aspects of tennis. On a Wednesday evening in the Winter, floodlighting is provided for free

Hythe Lawn Tennis Club has been awarded the title of "The Lawn Tennis Association
Kent Club of the Year.

The club has its very own coaching scheme in place. These are run independently by Nick Skelton who is a LTA Licensed Tennis Coach! We do have other qualified coaches, so for more information about coaching, and the other qualified coaches, and qualified young TA's, please visit the Coaching page.

We also encourage our Juniors when reaching a certain level of play to join the social mix-ins as juniors with senior status as recommended and given by the coach and committee

Now that we have eight all weather floodlit courts the problem
with getting court time seems to have, in the main, resolved itself.

However there are certain times, particularly in the evenings,
when it is advisable to book a court should you wish to play.

As you can see from the blank booking sheets there
are adequate spaces available at all times.
The sheets are in the pavilion,
one month at a time, for you to place a regular or
occasional booking and certainly in the mornings, particularly.
Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays,
it would be necessary to reserve a court to be sure of your slot.
Sundays are home match days during the winter so
check the match list should you wish to play on that day. ——›››
